Mr. Jerry Doyle Purvis, age 66, of Nicholls passed away early Tuesday morning, December 15, 2009, at his residence, following a brief illness. Mr. Purvis, a native of Willacoochee, Ga., retired as Assistant Supervisor in the Vehicle Maintenance Department of the City of Douglas. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was the son of the late Jake Purvis and the late Florine Vera Walls Purvis. He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Curtis Purvis and Carlis Purvis. Mr. Purvis was a member of the Salem Methodist Church. Survivors include: His Wife: Lila Jo Taylor Purvis of Nicholls, Ga. Daughters: Lisa (Jimmy) Youngblood, and Traci (Rob) Harrell, all of Nicholls, Ga. 2 Grandchildren: Jessie Youngblood, and Jake Harrell, both of Nicholls, Ga. 1 Brother: Jimmy Stevens of Ocilla, Ga. Special Aunt: Ruth Spicer of Tampa, Florida. Several Nieces, Nephews, and Other Relatives. Funeral Services were held Thursday, December 17, 2009, at 3:00 P.M., at Saginaw Baptist Church, with the Rev. John Thomas, Rev. L.G. Aldridge, Rev. Jerry Martin, Jr. officiating. Rev. Jerry Martin, Sr. conducted the Graveside rites. The Interment followed in the Saginaw Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were: Scott Taylor, Vance Burkett, Charlie Burkett, Danny Taylor, Tommy Sears, Jackie Spicer, Jimmy Kirkland, Benji Kirkland, and Henry Taylor. Special Musical Selections, “The Anchor Holds”, was presented by the Soloist, Dennis Hursey, with Taped Music, and “Go Rest High On That Mountain”, was presented by the Soloist, Steve Kirkland, with Taped Music. “Pre-Lude” and “Post-Lude” soft hymns were presented by the Pianist, Iris McElhaney.
