Mrs. Rubye Carter Phillips, age 89, of Douglas passed away early Sunday morning, October 25, 2009, at the Coffee Regional Medical Center, in Douglas, following an extended illness. Mrs. Phillips, a native of Baxley, Appling County, was the daughter of the late S. H. Carter, and the late Mary Tatum Carter, and the wife of the late George W. Phillips. She moved to Douglas to do paper work and keep books for a local Stockyard, where she met and later married George W. Phillips. She was a member of a local Garden Club. Mrs. Phillips was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she was an active member until she became ill. Survivors include: 1 Son: Emory Phillips of Douglas, Ga. Several Nieces, Nephews, and other Relatives. Funeral Services were held Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at 11:00 A. M., at the First Baptist Church, with Dr. Shep Johnson officiating. The Entombment followed in the Community Mausoleum in the Douglas City Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were: Phil Tanner, George Stockwell, Paul Musgrove, Errol Sears, Bob Williams, Charles A. Lott, Rev. Floyd Musgrove, and Don Griffin. Special Musical Selections, “How Great Thou Art”, and “The Lord’s Prayer”, were presented by the Soloist, B. J. Holiday, with Marsha Gilliard, at the Piano. “Pre-L:ude” and “Post-Lude”, soft hymns were rendered by the Pianist, Marsha Gilliard.
