Mr. Truett Meeks, age 90, of Douglas passed away Monday, October 12, 2009, at the Summers Landing, following an extended illness. Mr. Meeks, a native of Coffee County, was a Prominent Farmer of the New Forest Community. He was the son of the late Charles Franklin Meeks and the late Susan Baker Meeks, and the husband of the late Effie Brooks Meeks. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II. Mr. Meeks was a Deacon and Member of the Central Baptist Church. Survivors include: 2 Sons: James D. “Jimmy” Meeks, and Sidney W. Meeks, both of West Green, Ga.; 2 Daughters: Nancy M. Kirkland of Nicholls, Ga., and Jeannette M. Pitts of Parkland, Florida.; 8 Grandchildren, and 10 Great Grandchildren; Several Nieces, Nephews, and Other Relatives; Funeral Services were held Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at 11:00 A. M,, at Central Baptist Church, with Rev. Wes Brown officiating. The Interment followed in the Church Cemetery, with Military Personnel from Fort Stewart Army Base, from Hinesville, Georgia, furnishing a Bugler, and the Flag Detail. Active Pallbearers were: Tyson Pitts, Kyle Meeks, Harmon Cales, Joe Cason, Jack Meeks, Tim Meeks, John Meeks, and Tom Meeks. Honorary Pallbearers were: Paul Hutcheson, Itsel Hendrick, Dustin Steptoe, J. R. Meeks, Jim Hudson, Vicki Lewis, and Sharon Lewis. Special Musical Selections, “Going Over Jordan”, was presented by the Soloist, Sybil Benson, with Iris McElhaney, at the Piano, and “Precious Memories”, was presented by the Soloist, Kori Clements, with Nancy Kirkland, at the Piano. “Pre-Lude” and “Post-Lude” soft hymns were rendered by the Pianist, Iris McElhaney.
