Obituary

Roy Wilson “Bud” Sturgis, age 92, of Douglas GA passed away on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 at Shady Acres Convalescent Center in Douglas GA. Mr. Sturgis, a native of Coffee County, GA, was born September 23, 1916; he is the son of the late Henry & Alma Swails Sturgis. He was a carpenter & the widower of the late Annie Merritt Sturgis. He was a member of the Bushnell Chapel. Son, Wilson Sturgis preceded him in death. Survivors: Son, Wendell (Judy) Sturgis, Ambrose GA, Brother, Daniel Sturgis, Frostproof FL, Grand Children, Jennifer Wills, Susan Walker, Trey Sturgis, Jana Sturgis & Alicia Sturgis & one great grandchild, several nieces & nephews. Funeral services were held 4:00 Pm, Thursday, September 17, 2009 at Bushnell Chapel near Douglas GA with Rev. Gerald Gardner & Rev. Ernest Harper officiating. Barbara & Wayne Carver sang, “Where The Roses Never Fade” & “Heaven Will Surely Be Worth It All” with Lois Mills, Pianist. Burial followed in the New Hope Church Cemetery near Ambrose GA. Active pallbearers were: Curtis Harper, J. R. Benefield, Lorrell Harrell, W. B. Merritt, John Sturgis & Waymon Bailey. Honorary pallbearers were: Staff of Shady Acres, Staff of Summer’s Landing & Members of Adult Sunday School Class of Bushnell Chapel. Sims Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
