Mr. R. J. Thompson, age 87, of Douglas passed away Monday evening, June 21, 2010, at the Coffee Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness. Mr. Thompson, a native of Adrian, Georgia, had lived in the Douglas area for the past few years. He was the son of the late Robert Ellis Thompson and the late Lena Spell Thompson. He was also preceded in death by a son, Johnny Thompson. He was a U. S. Coast Guard Veteran of World War II. He retired from the Piper Aircraft Corporation, as a painter. Mr. Thompson was a member of the Southview Church of God. Survivors include: His Wife: Keva Odom Thompson of Douglas, Ga.; Children: Robert David (Inge-Lise) Thompson of Sautee, Ga. ; Patricia (Lee) Morris of Cleveland, Ga., and Marilyn Morris of Macon, Ga.; 5 Step-Children: Michael Hernandez of Memphis, Tennessee ; Chip Hernandez of Rogers, Arkansas, Daniel (Joyce) Hernandez of New Bern, North Carolina, Angela Smith of Hawkinsville, Ga., and David (Mary) Werntz of Douglas, Ga.; 1 Sister: Billie Jean Higgins of Fort Pierce, Florida.; 9 Grandchildren, 12 Step Grandchildren.; 12 Great Grandchildren, and 3 Great Great Grandchildren.; Several Nieces, Nephews, Friends, and Other Relatives. Funeral Services were held Friday, June 25, 2010, at 10:00 A. M., at the Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home, with Rev. Hilton Martin, Rev. Aubrey Lloyd, and Rev. Billie Harless officiating. A Special Eulogy was presented by Marilyn Morris. The Interment followed in the Tanner Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were: Eric Thompson, Chip Hernandez, Daniel Hernandez, Jonathan Werntz, Carlos Burch, and Reggie Lavender. Special Musical Selections, “One Day, I Will”, was presented by the Soloist, Patricia Morris, at the Piano, “God On the Mountain” was presented by the Soloist, Angela Smith, with CD Music, and “Crying for Me”, was presented a cappella by the Soloist, David Werntz. “Pre-Lude” and “Post Lude” soft hymns were presented by the Pianist, Lenora Lavender.
