Mrs. Dorothy Fender Turner Kirkland, age 81, of Douglas passed away Monday morning, May 3, 2010, at the Coffee Regional Medical Center, following an extended illness. Mrs. Kirkland, a native of Atkinson County, had lived in the Douglas area for most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Laster Fender and the late Illa Gerganus Fender, and the wife of the late J. D. Turner. Mrs. Kirkland was a member of the First Assembly of God of Douglas. Survivors include: Her Husband: Shelley Kirkland of Douglas, Ga. Children: D. J. (Sally) Turner; Lonnie Turner; Vernon (Brenda) Turner; and Randy (Tammy) Turner, all of Douglas, Ga. Grandchildren: Amanda Turner; Alyssa Turner; and Jason Turner, all of Douglas, Ga. Great Grandchild: Graci Turner of Douglas, Ga. Brother: Kenneth Fender of Lakeland, Ga. Sister: Doris Douglas of Pearson, Ga. Several Nieces, Nephews, Friends, and Other Relatives. Funeral Services were held Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at 3:00 P. M., at the Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home, with Rev. Marshall Adcock officiating. The Interment followed in the Douglas City Cemetery, with Rev. Brandon McMillan presenting the final Prayer. Active Pallbearers were: Vick Gillespie, Rev. Brandon McMillan, Brian Whitley, Bruce Whitley, Rev. Byron Griffis, and Anthony Nipper. Special Musical Selections, “In His Arms”, and “Walk Through The Gates”, were rendered by the Kirkland Family on CD Music. “Pre-Lude” and “Post-Lude” soft hymns were presented by the Pianist, Janie Ruth Kirkland, at the Piano.
