Mrs. Leola McMillan Merritt, age 73, of Broxton passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at Shady Acres Health and Rehabilitation Center, in Douglas, following an extended illness. Mrs. Merritt, a native of Berrien County, had lived in the Broxton area for many years. She was the daughter of the late Randall McMillan and the late Alice Luke McMillan, and the wife of the late Ira Russell “Bug” Merritt. She had been employed by P. C. C., as a Finisher. Mrs. Merritt had been attending Reedy Branch Baptist Church. Survivors include: Daughters: Karen Grimes of Union, Mississippi, and Shenna James of Jacksonville, Florida; Sons: Jerry Wayne Spikes of Broxton, Ga., and Daryl Steven Spikes of Ambrose, Ga.; 1 Sister: Reba Starter of Detroit, Michigan.; 8 Grandchildren, and 6 Great Grandchildren. Several Nieces, Nephews, and Other Relatives. Funeral Services were held Sunday, March 14, 2010, at 3:00 P. M., at Reedy Branch Baptist Church, with Rev. Den Weniger officiating. The Interment followed in the Mount Paron Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, near Alapaha, in Berrien County. Active Pallbearers were: John Dockery, Kevin Smalley, Eric Wooten, Stephen James, and Arnold Parsons. Special Musical Selections, “Will The Circle Be Unbroken”, “Wings Of A Dove”, “Jesus, Hold My Hand”, and “Amazing Grace”, were presented by Higher Praise, with Rev. Den Weniger, at the Keyboard. “Pre-Lude” and “Post-Lude” soft hymns were rendered by the Musician, Mrs. Evelyn Weniger.
