Mrs. Josephine Constance Harper Meeks, age 89, of Douglas passed away Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at the Coffee Regional Medical Center, following a short illness. Mrs. Meeks, a native of Irwin County, had lived in the New Forest Community for many years. She was the daughter of the late Brooks Harper and the late Bessie Johnson Harper. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Warren Kenneth Meeks, brother, Paxton Harper, and sisters, Mildred Moore, and Margaret Harper. Mrs. Meeks was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness. Survivors include: Children: Colin Meeks of Waycross, Ga.; Sherry Leebern of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.; and Max Gregory Meeks of Douglas, Ga. Sisters: Mary Mitchell of Douglas, Ga.; Martha Fussell of Wray, Ga., and Eleanor Harper of Fitzgerald, Ga. Grandchildren: Shannon Sierra Meeks, and Ashley Maria Meeks, both of Lilburn, Ga.; Toby Harris of Statesboro, Ga.; Glenn Meeks, and Rhonda Swinea, Melinda Morgan, all of Waycross, Ga.; Christa (Nick) Strominger of Miami, Fla.; Brooke (Cole) LeBourgeois of New Orleans, La. ; Ginn (Brad) Maires of Charleston, S. C.; and Douglas Leebern of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Several Nieces, Nephews, Friends, and Other Relatives. Funeral Services were held Friday, March 12, 2010, at 11:00 A. M., at the Chapel of Ricketson Funeral Home, with Mr. Ray Way officiating. The Interment followed in the Central Baptist Church Cemetery. Active Pallbearers were: Jack Meeks, Tim Meeks, Jimmy Meeks, Steven Mitchell, Shannon Mitchell, and Clifton Fussell. “Pre-Lude” and “Post-Lude” soft hymns were presented by CD Music.
