Big Dog Personalities

Rick and Bubba

Image
Monday - Friday
7 - 11 a.m.

Rick Burgess and Bill "Bubba" Bussey, a.k.a. "The Two Sexiest Fat Men Alive!", host a daily morning radio show known as The Rick & Bubba Show. The show is now syndicated and can be enjoyed by the entire family!

In a nutshell ... Rick and Bill (as Bubba was known then) went to rival high schools (Rick went to Oxford High in Oxford, Ala., and Bill went to Jacksonville High, in Jacksonville, Ala.). The two knew of each other through athletics -- Rick was an All-State defensive tackle and Bill was a basketball player (All-County ... some say he should have been All-State) and baseball player (drafted by the then Silver Run Twins). The two became friends at Jacksonville State University while working at the college radio station. Rick was a long-haired, rock-n-roll singing, afternoon radio guy. Bill was the promotions director and engineer (they wouldn't let him have a shift other than the grave-yard shift because of his terrible southern accent). The two first noticed a "chemistry" as they worked together in Spanish class. (Rick earned a D- and Bill a F ... hey thanks Mrs. Suco!) . Read and learn more at  rickandbubba.com.

Sunday
8:00 to10:00

Re-live the the 90's every Sunday with Dave Stewart on 97.9 The Big Dog.

Bill Clinton, the "Information Superhighway", Alanis Morissette, flannel, Melrose Place, Tickle-Me Elmo, Generation X, Julia Roberts... Ask ten people to name the icons of the nineties and you'll get ten totally different lists.  Now there's a weekend radio show that brings it all back...Retro Stars with Dave Stewart.

Musically, the decade was a wild ride.  It started with hair bands and boy bands.  But by the mid-'90s, modern rock had become so mainstream, the word "alternative" didn't fit anymore... and Seattle was the center of it all.

'90s fashion was about baby-doll dresses, pre-ripped jeans and tattoos.  But some of the trendiest clothes of the decade came from the thrift shop.  At the salon, ladies were getting the "Rachel" cut and the guys were clipping off their mullets (hopefully).

New words and phrases of the '90s included ebonics, don't ask; don't tell, cybercafes, Hakuna Matata and a holiday called "Festivus" (Seinfeld).

If you love a good scandal, the '90s had plenty... Heidi Fleiss, Amy Fisher and a homemade video by Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee.  But Matthew McConaughey gave us one of the funniest visuals of the decade... naked bongo drums!

As the '90s came to a close, some worried about Y2K while others worried if a former pro-wrestler could be governor (Jesse "The Body" Ventura).

Along the way, we sneered at Tonya Harding, we feared Lorena Bobbitt, we cheered Forrest Gump, and 90210 became the most famous zip code in America.

The nineties were awesome.
